Meet Emily
Hi, I'm Em.
I've got more than 15 years of nursing behind me. I've also worked in disability support, first as a Support Worker and later as a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner.
If those jobs taught me one thing, it's this: what you see on the surface is hardly ever the full picture. There's nearly always something going on underneath, and it's worth being curious about it.
I lost count of the times I saw women leave an appointment feeling dismissed or more confused than when they walked in. Some left with a prescription, but not one clear answer about what was actually happening in their body.
I get it, because I've been there myself. I've had my own battles with my hormones. I know how they can mess with your mood, your sleep, your relationships and your whole week, and how lonely it feels when nobody can explain why.
We were all shown how to manage a period. Hardly any of us were shown how to understand one.
So I put my nursing background, my own experience and, if I'm honest, quite a bit of frustration into creating Be Heard Health.
There's a mountain of conflicting advice online. Understanding your body shouldn't feel that hard, and with a bit of help it doesn't have to.
Right now I'm also studying menstrual health with the Menstrual Health Institute, because there's always more to learn.
When you understand your body, it gets a whole lot easier to be heard.
